TRA Tocklai celebrated International Tea Day on May 21st with a series of engaging events highlighting the importance of tea in the lives of people. The activities commenced at 6 a.m. with an awareness procession at the designated walking zone adjacent to Jorhat Stadium. The procession, inaugurated by TRA Director Dr. A. Babu, was participated by Tocklai TRI employees and other individuals associated with the tea industry. A temporary stall was erected at the location which offered passers-by black and green tea along with informative handouts detailing the health benefits of tea.
Following the procession, a Drawing Competition was held at Tocklai TRI, bringing together more than 100 students from different schools across Jorhat. The young artists enthusiastically showcased their talent, creating artworks that celebrated tea and its cultural significance.
The Drawing Competition was followed by an awareness programme at Tocklai TRI, attended by several esteemed guests, including Mr. P.K. Bezboruah, noted tea planter and former TRA Chairman, Mr. Sudhir Prakash, also a former TRA Chairman, Dr. J. Chakraborty, former Chief Advisory Officer of Tocklai, the parents of the participating students, tea planters from around Jorhat and representatives of various small tea growers’ associations.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where winners of the drawing competition were awarded certificates and mementos. Aritrika Misra of Don Bosco School, Baghchung secured the first position in Group A (Std. 1 to 4), Kritika Hazarika of Maharishi Vidyamandir secured the first position in Group B (Std. 5-7), while Gauravjyoti Bordoloi of DonBosco School, Lichubari secured the first place in Group C (Std. 8-12).
